Cala Ratjada LighthouseMallorca is located off the south-east of Spain and is the largest island in the Balearic archipelago with over 3,600 square kilometers of area to play, relax, shop, and be entertained in.  It is divided into three main regions: the (la Serra de) Tramuntana mountains, the (la Serra de) Llevant mountains and Es Pla.  The mountains are much loved by those looking for an active and adventurous holiday retreat where trekking and bike riding are common to come across – it is also possible to see the brief episodes of snow at the highest peaks during the winter months.

Mallorca’s cuisine has a considerable variety of dishes and due to the high quality of local products, it’s hard not to eat out.  Some dishes are known internationally such as the sobrassada, a spicy kind of sausage; the ensaimada, a sweet pastry, and Hierbas which is a renowned spirits. Beautiful properties in AlcudiaTo buy a property in Mallorca, you’ll need to open up a Spanish bank account, appoint a lawyer (who will also obtain an NIE number which is obligatory to own a property) and obtain a mortgage. Many lenders are happy to set up a mortgage for foreigner buyers but will generally only lend up to 70% of the property’s value.
Additional costs to consider when buying are the 7% tax which is payable to the government and there is usually a 1% charge for legal services.  Any further charges are made for the Notary, property registration, mortgage fees etc.
 
Activities
Due to the mild winters, it is possible for golf enthusiasts to play nearly every day of the year.  There are currently 16 golf courses dotted around the island which offer varied Cycling in Mallorcalandscapes.  Cyclists also enjoy the terrain in Mallorca and can take advantage of the landscapes and trails for at least 9 months of the year (summer is usually too hot).  Tourists from all over Europe travel here to enjoy the sport and can rest in the many hotels that specialise in cycling.

There are many horse riding schools that operate throughout the island with many adventures available from trekking up the mountains or down by the sea.  The sea offers another range of activities with sailing being a popular sport.
 
Influenced by the Muslim past settlements and the Spanish reign, tourists will be able to see Mallorca’s rich cultural heritage through the Medieval buildings, the Cathedral of Palma, the Santa Eulalia Church, the Castle of Bellver, the walls in Alcudia and Gaudi’s cultural heritage all of which are worth visiting and are guaranteed to charm visitors.  But if this isn’t quite enough, there are museums offering art and cultural heritage.
