Everyone loves a gorgeous looking bathroom; it's an important room in your home. It should be a room you like to be in and a lovely new bathroom is great selling factor.

A place to wake you up in the morning with a quick shower and to calm you down in the evening with a relaxing steamy bath ...

So you want a new bathroom ... ask yourself some questions ...

how much money do I have to spend?

What features and furniture are essential to achieve my ideal bathroom?

Everything depends on your budget but if you do enough searching, you'll be able to find the right bathroom to suit your pocket and your style.

Making decisions …

• There are so many different styles of bathroom to choose and with frequent new designs coming our way it's hard to make a decision but it's all down to personal taste. Many of the stores offer new 3D technology to help you on the way to designing your bathroom
• Magazines can provide ideas and could prevent you from making a faux pas - like trying to mix too many ideas into one bathroom or choosing a suite that doesn't fit the dimensions of the room
• The internet gives you many different styles and trends, so have a look before choosing as there might be something more appealing

Shower …

There's now a larger number of showering products available due to peoples' work and play schedules. A quick and revitalising shower is now more appealing than waiting for the bath to fill with water. They are also more popular for the elderly due to mobility problems.
• One of the latest trends is the ‘wet floor’ shower.  This option takes away the claustrophobic enclosure and gives the feeling of space. Many have also opted for heated flooring which takes away the fear of cold tiles, but also helps the tiles to dry quickly after showering. Be careful though, as this option may take more time to maintain.
• Another option is to incorporate a glass screen or partition wall to prevent splashing. This still allows for the feeling of space but separates the showering area from the rest of the bathroom - this works much better for those who have smaller bathrooms.
• Shower heads have evolved dramatically over the last few years, from large fixed heads, electric showers, hand showers, overhead shower heads and all the way to body jets.
Check if you need to get a pumped shower too, you don’t want to have be left with only a trickle of water.
• Who will be using the shower? There are shower systems now available with a safety stop button to prevent the user from accidently turning up the temperature.  This can be particularly helpful when the users are children or the elderly.
• A more expensive option is the latest shower technology - the digital showers. This allows for the shower to be switched on and programmed by the click of a remote control. Great if you need a bit of encouragement to get out of bed in the morning!

Or bath…

Bathing is still an important factor and designers are now focusing on luxury and relaxation. There are again, many different styles and shapes all offering different options for the bather.

• There are many bathing options from whirlpool baths, large double ended baths, free-standing baths to the standard sized baths. Have a look around to find the right one for you.

Flooring and walls…

The Flooring is very important in a bathroom and can create a big difference to the final result.

• As mentioned earlier, there is a trend that is swaying towards tile heated flooring; however this can be an expensive option. If you like the idea of tiled flooring but cannot afford heated flooring, using the radiators and bathroom rugs make the room warmer.
• Large tiles are very popular and help contribute to the room appearing bigger. Finding co-ordinating or matching tiles for the wall is beneficial to the overall look.  If you choose to have matching wall tiles, then perhaps to help break up the colours, choosing a border or having mosaic tiles or something similar in the shower or bath area, help with the texture. Take a look at Living House for more ideas.
• Wall hung options are now very popular as it gives the bathroom a feel of comfort without being cluttered. The trend has recently moved forward to using a heated towel rail rather than a radiator, which benefits those with not much space, but it gives the added incentive of coming in many sizes and styles.
• Other wall hung options are mirrors, medicine cupboards and individual storage units.  These can come in many different shapes, sizes and styles to suit whatever design you choose.

Lighting…

Lighting dramatically changes the ambience of the room depending on what fittings and style you choose.

• Spotlights give off a lot of light without being overpowering and because they fit very neatly into the ceiling, they look tidy. They seem to be the most popular at the moment.
• Many have also opted for backlights or LED mirrors which help contribute to the overall look, adding brightness and giving you the advantage of seeing your appearance more clearly.

Furniture…

Depending on the size of your bathroom, furniture is a useful tool to help give the room more texture. There are many different options available so it is best to look in showrooms, the internet and magazines.

There are many options when it comes to deciding which sink, toilet and worktop surfaces so again, have a look around to find the best option.
